OMEGA STERLING SILVER DEMI HUNTER "WAR VET CERTIFIED" TRENCH WATCH AND WELL SERVCIED 1901STOCK NUMBER # OMEGA16580------I was awed and stunned when this piece came to me and with pleasure and in an instant I purchased this piece as it has significant Canadian factual history. I am proud to offer for sale this Omega Demi hunter sterling silver trench watch with a verified name and dog tag numbers. This was a gift timepiece from Maude I assume his wife to James when he left for war in WW1. This is a fix wire lug Demi hunter case and from lug to lug this piece is 43mm long and wide less the orignal onion crown it is 35mm. The case is signed on the inside back "A.W.C.Co, Sterling" and the case serial number is 1,060,034. Both hinges are in correct order and tight not worn. The inside bezel does hold a glass crystal and the hands as you can see are original as the hour hand is a double spade and made for this Demi hunter model Omega. The dial is enamel and mint ....yes not a line not a flaw and it is with 5 minute outer increments as the scan with the open lid shows you. This is an 0 size movement and with 15 clean and inspected jewels. I have serviced this piece to perfection and keeps great time indeed. This is a manual wind movement and set by the stem as well. The serial number is 1,877,958 which places this Soldier's timepiece to the year 1901. Please notice the black enamel Arabic numbers are quite clean and not really chipped. I will mention that around the rim of this bezel it is inscribed and I quote "With love from Maude 1911". On the back of this sterling silver case it reads and I quote " J.W Bayley, 766079, 123rd C.E.F". This piece is well serviced and again has Canadian historical value.2500.00 USD
Until now, the story of the Canadian Combat Pioneers in the Great War has been overlooked by military historians who have chosen to focus on the infantry actions. This book chronicles the story of the Battalion raised by one of Canada’s oldest and finest Regiments; the 10th Royal Grenadiers, whose history began in December 1861. The order to raise the 123rd Battalion was issued November 12, 1915, and Lieutenant-Colonel Walter Bernard Kingsmill, the Commanding Officer of the Royal Grenadiers at the time, relinquished his command to raise, train and command the 123rd Battalion. They trained hard and sailed for England as a highly skilled infantry battalion, but just as they were about to mobilize to France, the Battalion was converted to a Combat Pioneer Battalion. They served with excellence at all of the Canadian Great Battles, including Vimy Ridge, Lens, Hill 70, and Passchendaele, but were once again reorganized as a part of the major change affecting the whole of the Engineering Branch in May 1918. Under the reorganization, the 123rd Battalion, Royal Grenadiers, formed the backbone of the new 3rd Canadian Engineer Brigade, as the 7th, 8th and 9th Canadian Engineer Battalions. The officers and men of the 123rd went on to distinguish themselves in the Last 100 Days of the War, including offensives at Amiens, Bourlon Wood, Canal du Nord, Cambrai, Valenciennes, and they were the first Canadians at the gates of Mons in the wee hours of November 10-11, 1918, the day the armistice took effect.
Thanks for your note, Darryl. Yes, James Walter Bayley was married to
Agnes Maude Jordan in 1912. He joined the 123rd Battalion, Royal
Grenadiers, on October 5, 1915 and served through the duration of the
Great War, and returned home to his wife on March 28, 1919. He died
August 11, 1952 at the age of 63.
Hope this helps.
Stay healthy.
Regards,
Dan Moxxx curator for 123rd battalion C.E.F

OMEGA STAINLESS STEEL "PIE PAN DIAL" SEAMASTER AND WELL SERVICED AUTOMATIC 1956
Hello Darryl, the Seamaster arrived at the Dry cleaners about 20 minutes
ago. I'm absolutely delighted with it/ Your description was impeccable and
so is the watch; which has obviously led a life of unblemished innocence
since 1956.
Let me just repeat what an absolute delight it was doing business with
you - for three main reasons - your generosity with the price reduction,
the impeccable service, and the fact that you laughed at all my jokes.
I'm spending a lot of time drooling over you inventory, and I guarantee
I'll be back soon. If you come across a pre 1935 Octagonal Rolex Oyster
in silver don't even bother to post it - I'll take it,
Donc. A la prochaine.
