MUCKLE CASE ULTRA ULTRA RARE!!!!  HAMPDEN MULTI COLORED ENAMEL DIAL 18 SIZE IMPECCABLY SERVICED!!! 1898

STOCK NUMBER # HAMP770-----I have for sale a ultra scarce American pocket watch "Muckle" reversible case. In other words when you look at the first scan it is an open case pocket watch then if you open both front and back covers the middle part with the movement swings to the reverse side and instantly makes it a hunter closed lid pocket watch...incredible! This is a coin silver well signed pocket watch case and across it is 60mm. This is a stem wind and a lever set model Hampden pocket watch and the enamel dial is multi colored with a few lines but not Earth shattering at all.  The hands are thin railroad grade pieces and the crystal is glass and flawless.  This swinging Muckle case serial number is 21,235 and as the scans show you once again properly signed in all the right places. The movement is a super clean and well serviced as it is an accurate timekeeper indeed. There are 15 clean and inspected jewels to this 18 size Hampden and the serial number for this full plate nickel movement is 1,155,470 which places this piece to the year 1898, over 120 years of age and looks and runs perfectly as it truly is that clean. There are no personal engravings on this case and the middle coin edge rim is sharp and crisp. Again this is a rare piece and truly a remarkable piece of American "know how!!!"

The North-western Watch Case Company (which later became the Rockford Watch Case Company) is most known for making the Muckle reversible case. Named "Magic Watch-Case" also called "Climax Case" it was designed and patented as a convertible case. It could be used as an open-face case (just a crystal over the dial) or as a hunter-case (with a push of a button the spring hinged lid/cover pops open to reveal the dial also protecting the crystal). The part of the case that holds the movement can be rotated a full 360 degrees making it all possible. (I hope the images help visualize how the case converts from a hunter style to an open face watch.) Filed for patent (# 275251) as the "Magic Watch-Case" by Edward A. Muckle, Rockford, IL. on August 5, 1882 and the patent was granted on April 3, 1883. This 18 size Muckle case has a pre patent (patent pending) date of 1882 and was produced before the actual patent was granted.
